Illustrator 25.1  MacOS 11.2 (Big Sur)

Running into this issue when previewing a vector logo. Steps below illustrate the issue.

1) Type is live (Clarendon BT)

2) Then outline type

3) Create filled box and send to background and then use Pathfinder > Exclude (from Pathfinder pallet – one from menu does nothing!)

4) Zoom in on sharp angles in letter. There is what looks like a stroke extending into letter. Should be smooth.

5 ) this shows the same in Outline View

This does not print or show up when placed (like InDesign).

Anyone else seen this?

That fixes it! So it looks OK when viewed using the CPU Preview mode. Thanks for the help.

You are welcome, Mark.

There could be a more permanent solution:

This is what GPU is about, which you probably know:
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/gpu-performance-preview-improvements.html

GPU is faster, sometimes too fast.

Graphics cards are included in the system requirements:
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/system-requirements.html
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/system-requirements/earlier-versions.html
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/system-requirements-old-versions.html

Apart from an inadequate card, the issue can be caused by lack of driver updating, lack of proper recognition of the card by the computer, and whatnot (including rifts in the space time, moon, weather, and the fact that Illy sometimes moves in mysterious ways).

Here are a few more pages about GPU troubleshooting:
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/gpu-performance-errors-troubleshooting-workarounds.html
https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/illustrator-gpu-performance-driver-update.html

Ctrl/Cmd+E toggles between GPU and CPU Preview, GPU causing the issue.

You may try a graphics card update, or wait it out hoping the issue gets sorted.

Or, with this exquisite wording by Monika:

Thanks Jacob,

Im on an iMac Pro so while it seems my specs all fit the system requirements it still gives issues. I found another rendering issue with live type ther other day, which goes away when switching the CPU.

I'm fine knowing what the issue is and how to fix it, even if just temporary, as long as it does not mees up the artwork.

Thank you for sharing, Mark.

Have you tried a graphics card (driver) update?

Hi,

Mine seems to be working fine. Have you recently updated to the latest version of Illustrator?
