Path still has a fill colour even when it is selected as 'none'

When I create a path in illustrator with the fill as 'none' it is still filled with a random colour. How do I stop this from happening?

Please select your path and show us a screenshot again. If the behaviour also happens show the Layers Panel and the Appearance Panel too.
