Pattern to path in text

I am trying to print this design on a laser but when I upload the picture it is only the outlined text that shows up and not the pattern. I have expanded the design and then the pattern shows but not just in the text. is there anyway to fix this?

Please tellus step by step what you are doing and also which version, system and software you use (also for the laser).

Is the bottom one not what you want it to look like?

Also: what are the specifications for the laser? What kind of file do you need to send?
