Placed photoshop cmyk images washed out in illustrator

Problem: A placed psd file - cmyk in illustrator appears washed out. Both programs are using the same color settings. This problem has just started to happen. All settings have remained the same. Previous documents created using the same settings and similar placed images are displaying correctly. See attached images. PSD on left (correct). Illustrator doc on right. I've always used display and print as rich black with this project (and have gone to print with these settings and all is good).

I'm completely flummoxed as to what is going on.

Thanks.

What is the Document Color Profile?

You can check that at the bottom of your window.

Do you have multiple monitors or just a single display?

I've also output to press pdf with no compression or downsampling per my usual settings and it remains washed out.

I discovered that indeed the profile was not correct and the settings were not changing the profile... I had to actually convert the profile and then resave the photoshop file. Doh!

Good to hear you found the cause.

It may be useful to turn on warnings for Profile Mismatches in your color settings.
