Hi, this is probably going to sound completely ridiculous, but i'm on day 1 of using illustrator so please dont laugh.

I've downloaded 2 EPS files direct from Flaticon. Just basic black icons. I open the first one with illustrator and use the fill tool to change the colour no problem.

I then place the second file which was downloaded in the same format/method/file type, and for the life of me, i cannot get it to change colour using the same process.

It stays black, even though the swatch and fill seem to be indicating that it is a different colour.

I checked out a few youtube vids and tried using appearance and such, but nope, nothing, nada.

Can someone please please help this desperate amatuer?! I just want to change the colour lolol

They are both groups. If you want to fill single paths, ungroup them first.

Check out the layers panel.
