Problem with visible anchor points

I'm new to Adobe illustrator. Everything was going fine until I started seeing the these visible blue anchor points in the picture. The problem I can't remove them and it doesn't allow me to scale the object while holding down shift  key. I can't even scale it at all.  This what I get when I select the object usingthhe black arrow.
