Problems pasting Excel charts into Illustrator

I need to paste some Excel charts into Illustrator so I can edit them and add to InDesign. Some of the charts aren't editable--for example, a line chart with lines and dots is all one piece, so the lines and dots can't be edited separately, and the dots are off center. The pasted text is random characters. This used to work with no major problems.

I changed the font to Verdana and that worked. (I'm using a Mac)

As for the shifted elements: you get what you get. You could try and export a PDF from Excel.

As for the text: Just don't use Calibri in Excel.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried saving the Excel file as a pdf, but got the same results. I changed the font and got a different set of random characters.
