Problems with Pattern -> Make

Hi. I need help troubleshooting Pattern Maker. I have a swatch that I have saved with no problem.  HOWEVER, I want to change it from grid to Brick By Column with 1/4 offset. It gives me "Unknown Swatch Error" if I choose Save a Copy, or "The art contains elements that are invalid for a pattern"  if I choose Done to have it save automatically. I don't understand what the blankity blank is happening and it's driving me crazy! Can anyone help, please?

Would it be possible for you to provide a link to the file through a file-sharing site? It's very hard to diagnose from a description.
