"Save as" window won't pop up for newly created files

Every time I create a new file, I can't save my progress through the "Save" or "Save as" buttons. Absolutely nothing pops up after I click any of those two. This is really frustrating as I have an upcoming project that requires good use of this program. It works perfectly fine if I'm trying to export my file.
The same issue happens with Photoshop on my computer. This doesn't happen with InDesign, though. I use a MacBook Air 2017 and my OS is Big Sur.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Please try resetting preferences of the app & see if it helps. You may also follow suggestions given on this community post & let us know if it works.

**Please note that resetting preferences will remove all the custom settings and Illustrator will launch with default settings. You can also take a backup of the folders in case you want to. Location is mentioned in the article.
