Illustrator is crashing on M1 Mac (macOS Big Sur)

Hi,

I am using Illustrator on a new Macbook Pro with M1 apple silicon. While using the software it often starts to randomly freeze and after a few minutes everything works again. Sometimes the whole mac is frozen for several minutes and Illustrator crashes completely. Not seeing anyone eelse reproting the problem und no issue desiriped my adobe on the M1 side i was wondering what could be rhe reason for this problem. Thank you!

Hi there,

 

Sorry about this trouble this issue has caused. As of now, Illustrator on M1 devices doesn't work natively, but it runs using Apple's Rosetta 2 technology which may cause few performance issues. For more details, please take a look at this help article (https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/kb/apple-silicon-m1-chip.html).

 

We have recently released an update for Illustrator 2021 (v 25.1) which contains some stability fixes. If you are not already on v25.1, then we recommend you to update to latest version and let us know how it goes.

I am experiencing the same problems and it is a pitty that Adobe wasn't prepared in any way. My Illustrator is shutting itself down and I get multiple error messages. The working process is very influent and difficult since the programm freezes all the time. Please fix this with a quick release of a beta version.

  • Version of Illustrator. On the last post, I mentioned to install the latest version 25.1 to fix performance related issues on Illustrator. Please confirm if you have already installed version 25.1. If not, please install that from CC and let us know how it goes.
  • If you are already on 25.1, please share more details about the issues you are facing. For example, if the issue is related to a specific document? If yes, could you please share the document with us? You can upload it to the Creative Cloud (https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html) and share the download link. 
  • Where are the files saved (Network Drive/ System HDD/ Shared Folder on System /External HDD)?
