Recent documents width of dropdown

Hello friends. I have to use long file names in my work. Is there a way to widen the recent files dropdown?  It's really annoying to guess which one file I'm opening since i often have filenames that are close.

There's no preference option to change that.

There was a way to modify a preferences file (.XML?) manually to set more than the 30 recent items limit. 
If you can find that you might be able to adjust the width of the menu. 

It seems strange this is set shallow.

You can set the number of recent files in the preferences file.
