Recolour Artwork not available...only Recolour Presets?

Hi! I am new to Illustrator so forgive me if this is really simple!

Trying to recolour an image that I imported into Illustrator. I direct selected it (white arrow) then Edit > Edit Colours. From there, I want "Recolour Artwork" but only "Recolour with Presets" is available as the rest are greyed out. Even when I click "Recolour with Presets", all the next options are also greyed out.

Does anyone know where I can go from here?

When you say 'image', what type of file is it?

You won't be able to recolour a raster image (PNG, JPEG) in Illustrator.
