Recolouring downloaded artwork

Hi there,

I've just bought and downloaded some artwork so have opened as a JPEG in Illustrator and want to change the colour - when I select 'edit colour' 'recolour artwork' is grayed out. 

I'm fairly new to illustrator so not sure if there's something else I need to do . I have taken a screenshot - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Photoshop is the better tool to edit images. Illustrator is a vector editing application.

Illustrator's Recolor Artwork only works on vectors; it cannot have any effect on place raster images.

Illustrator is a vector based program. Anything Vector you can change colors. If it is a JPEG or any Raster based file yuo will need to do it in Photoshop!
