Reflection Tool Not Including Both Sides

Hi,

I am currently learning to use the Reflection Tool on a Mac. I drag the guides to the centre of a photograph I want to use and then use the curvature tool to outline face. Then I choose the Reflect Tool and click on the centre of the guide I had set up previously. Then I click option and click on the centre guide again.

All it does, is flip back and forth across the middle guide. I can't get it to include both sides as a complete image.

I have tried Object > Transform > Reflect too but to no avail. It just does the same thing.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Have you actually enabled the "Create copy" option?

You draw a half of the image or a quarter?!
Would you provide a screenshot?

Hi, sorry it has taken so long to get back but here are some shots to illustrate my difficulties.

The first shot shows the model with half her face selected.

The second is what happens when I choose Object> Transform> Reflect

The third is what happens when I choose the Reflect Tool, select a point on her nose and then Option click again. on th same axis.

The forth is what happens when I choose Object> repeat > grid ( the selection turns into a big square)

There is a screen shot of the instructions and an example of what I am trying to get;

both sides of the face selected.

Note: when I use the reflect tool, it does show both sides of the face but as soon as I take my finger off the keyboard, it disapears.

Thanks.

Hi there!

I think you misunderstood the instructions. After you finished drawing one side of the face, you click on the Reflect Tool on the Toolbar (NOT by selecting Reflect from the Object->Transfrom menu!), then click on the guide (without any modifier keys!), and then Option (Alt) + Shift click on the shape and drag to copy it.

I hope this makes sense.

Cheers

Did you read the documentation?

https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/illustrator/using/rotating-reflecting-objects.html

If this is the latest version, you might also try the repeat function.
