Removing an image from a shape in Illustrator

I placed a photo in a shape in Illustrator.  Now I can't seem to remove without actually deleting the shape.  Can I just delete the photo from inside the shape?  I should also mention that I have deleted the image, but now I can't select "Draw Inside" which is how I placed the image.  I want to place a different image in the shape than the one I had originally placed.

Thanks

You can delete the photo, but probably the shape will then behave strangely.

Please check the layers panel if it's a clipping mask. And then release that clipping mask (Object menu)

Thanks, Monika! That was it!

I was trying to release the clipping mask from the transparency tab.

Have a great day!
