Rotating and duplicating objects does not work in Illustrator

The function of rotating and duplicating objects doesn't work. With 'alt' I can move the little blue cross, (marking the center of the object I want to rotate and duplicate) but somehow it doesn't 'stick' to the new rotation center. Even worse: Illustrator get stuck and the only way to get out is with ctrl+alt+delete. Who recognises this very annoying problem?

Btw: of course I'm using the latest version of Illustrator. The problem occurs for a while, also in older versions of Illustrator.

Does this happen whenyourotate via the dialog box?

Or rotating with the tool?

When was the last time you rebooted the computer?

Did you reset the preferences when updating?

Do you use a tablet? A special mouse?
