Hello, I am having a hard time with saving an image with a transparent background in illustrator. I was told to save it as a png but then read that png is not good for print because it is RGB. I need my file to save with a transparent background as CMYK as it will be used on a banner. Thank you

Save it as a native Illustrator file, or as a PDF.

If it's all vector-based Illustrator content, it already has a transparent background.

If, on the other hand, you've got one or more raster elements in the design (with 'white' pixels that would obstruct elements behind), you'll have to edit it those out in an image editing application, or mask them in Illustrator.

Really though, you haven't given us enough information to offer any sort of specific advice.

The best option is save as a vector composition. So try to save as Adobe Illustrator or as PDF file

You can also use PSD (with transparency) and set optimum resolution and Color Mode

Just:

File>Export As>PSD
