Saving illustrator file shows a path that isn't actually there

This has been bugging me for weeks and I have no idea how to fix it.

 

as part of a text logo I removed the middle line from the letter A to make an arrow. In Illustrator there's no path there at all so it's just basically 2 lines pointing at each other, all the letters are compound paths.  Yet, whenever I save in any format( I tried PDF, EPS, AI, PNG, JPG) it saves with this tiny line in between them, as seen below.  Any ideas would be appreciated.

Not sure what the problem was but I fixed it by just selecting all paths in the layer and uniting them.
