Saving not saving?

This isn't file specific, but when I save a file, it still shows the asterisk in the file tab. If you try to close the file, it says it hasn't been saved. I save a new version to see if it's a corrupt file and to have a backup, but still the same thing. To close the file, I have to select "do not save" and close as if you're not saving.

When I open the files, it appears that the info is being saved, but it is unnerving to say the least, when save isn't working perfectly.

Any recommendations of how to fix this?

Try and turn off "save in background" in the Illustrator preferences.

If that does not help, please tell us where you save files, operating system, Illustrator version etc.
