I have never had an issue with scaling images/objects without distorting them. Lately when I go to scale an object or image my shift key is not working to hold the image so it does not loose any of its quality. I have checked and my shift keys do work. Is there something I may have switch off in Illustrator to make this happen?

If the shift key works fine ouside illustrator, then do one of these things to test:

1- restart your PC/Mac and try it on a new document

2- turn off GPU ( ctrl + E) and try again.

3- reset illustartor preferences settings

Hi Kaitlin:

The Shift key should maintain the aspect ratio while resizing. If it isn't working, there may be another application causing a conflict. To test this theory, close all applications, reboot your computer and only open Illustrator. Is the Shift key working correctly now? If not, consider the applications that auto-load. Common culprits are browsers (Chrome), browser extensions, antivirus and anti-malware applications.

Thanks! Reset illustrator preferences settings was all it took for me to get back the ability to scale with the Shift Key again.
