Select a point below another point

When I select an object below another one and try to select a point on it the object above is selected instead.
If there is a point on the same location on the object above it is even harder.
I usually have to isolate the object below and as I usually align the points of various objects it gets difficult to edit any object that is not above everything.

Is thete a way to restrict the selection to the points of the selected object?

The behaviour you describe does not seem to happen in the most recent version(s) of Illustrator.

Which version of Illustrator are you using?

I use illustrator 25.2.1
Sorry but it does happen.

I have attached 2 images to show it.

In image 2.png I selected the torso line in order to select and move the leftmost point.

When I click on it I inadvertently select the arm which is above the torso as shown in 1.png.

Probably it may happen.

Can you share one or two sample Illustrator files with instructions to reproduce the selection issue?

I tred to upload the files but got this message
The attachment's 1.ai content type (application/postscript) does not match its file extension and has been removed.

They are very ordinary illustrator files.

The issue occurs when I work in outline mode which is most of the time.

I also work with smart guides on to precisely align points and lines and it makes the issue worse because it turns the points below inaccessible.

In Outline mode I can confirm the (mis)behaviour. It works well in Preview mode.

You may report it as a bug at the Uservoice section of this forum.
