spacebar stopped moving the marque boxes

Yesterday, PP crashed several times and this morning Illustrator acted up a bit. We should be able to reposition the shapes we draw by holding down the spacebar, but that stopped. Looking around online, my settings were correct so I followed a suggestion and reinstalled Illustrtor. The spacebar still isn't working with the shape tools. 

Any advice on what to do? I'm on a mac.

Have you also tried resetting your preferences..?
