Stroke won't follow path?

Hi! I have made a bunch of shapes and was starting to edit them when I found out that they keep converting to curves! When I make a new shape, I can make the shape look how I want, but the shapes I already have keep curving in a way I don't want. I've tried using the Convert Anchor Point tool to uncurve the corners, but it won't work. I just want the path to follow the green line like how I made it instead of curving. Are there any appearance attributes applied to the path (e.g. effects using the Effect menu)? You can check that by taking a look at the Appearance palette while a path object is selected.

Another possible reason: Nowadays there is a plague in Illustrator called "GPU Preview". All kinds of funny misbehaviours are caused by it. Often it helps to go to the View menu and turn on the CPU preview instead.
