I was given a file that has been tiled into 8.5" by 11" for home printing. But the client wans me to combine them into one larger art board. Is there a command to have adobe do that for me? Or do I have to do this all by hand?

You can create a new large artboard in the background (create a large rectangle and choose Convert to Artboards) and use that for printing.

Maube you need to use the Rearrange Artboards option to remove the spacing.

Optional, Shift select the old artboards in the Artboard panel and delete them.
