I am trying to put a text along a circle.  The circle is a key part of the element.  When put the text on path the stroke disappears.  Even if I try restroking the path, the stroke does not appear on the circle.  The stroke will appear on the text but not the circle.

Last time I truly used Illustrator daily, was Illustrator CS4.

Back then, I had to take the text and offset it from the path.

You can click outside the text along a circle to deselect it.

Us e the Direct Selection tool and click on the path (not the text) to select the path only.

Now you can give it a stroke.

Just reporting back on how this worked out.  I tried both of these and it did not work.  I tried to add another layer and put a circle on it to stroke.  Somehow even on another layer it was affected by the type layer.  I was going to try to put the layer on the opposite side, on top vs. below or visa versa.

Instead I just closed the image reopened it and was able to stroke the line when I retried it.
