Text pastes off-center?

Just noticed that text will not paste centered on the artboard... it pastes slightly to the left. (After cmd-0 to view full and centered artboard on Mac).

Even stranger, this still happens even after the text has been converted to outlines....

Other objects seem to be working fine.

Hmmm.... any ideas how to fix?

Can you show a screen shot?

Illustrator should paste to the center of the screen, and when the artboard is in the center of the screen with cmd+0, that should work (but you know that).

Hi jane-e... sure thing! Here you go. Vertical guide was aligned to page center:

Top is original with text dragged to center on guide (by setting text to align center and using center point.)

Middle is text cut, then pasted.

Bottom is text converted to outlines, cut, and pasted.

All were done after cmd-0.

Not sure what's going on here...

Hi - as noted, I'm on a Mac & using cmd-V (which I believe is the same as ctrl-v on PC) to past into the exact center of the artboard.

I am not trying to paste into the same position from which I've copied/cut.

Turner,

What happens in 3) (followed by undoing the silly preparatory operations) if you (just using live (editable Type)

1) Tick Use Preview Bounds in the General Preferences,

2) Apply Effect>Path>Outline Object,

3) Try to place again (Ctrl/Cmd+X+V),

4) Reduce to Basic Appearance (Appearance palette),

5) Untick Use Preview Bounds in the General Preferences?

Reproduced here as well, v 23.0.1, running in Windows 7.

I don't rely on it, but I know many do.

  • Fifteen days until Adobe MAX? No, that's November.
  • Fifteen days until Dave's Tech Wednesday? No, that's two days.
  • Fifteen days until snow? If it had been a few degrees colder here on Saturday, we would have have a blizzard that would have taken a week or more to dig out of.

I was referring rather sillily to this, Jane:

You are in 2019, right?

If you get lucky with the third bullet, I hope you will document it in the other thread, and also report whether the skunk cabbage manages to keep up (literally).

For some reason this just showed up today, Jacob, so I had to look back to see bullet #3! While 2019 (the year, not the software version) is fairly likely to happen in a week, I’m not quite so sure about the snow. It’s in the 40’s (F) for a couple of days, then it will soar to the 60s and drop to the 50s.

We took a class on Spring in Washington a number of years ago and that’s where we learned that Skunk Cabbbage is the first to bloom and the first sign of Spring. After that we learned where it was in the summer when it got big so we could hunt for it in Dec/Jan when it first begins to peek out of the ground. Now all of our hiking friends look for it, too. It never has trouble with snow, since it generates its own heat.

There is some on the trail close to my house, and I will take photos there if we get a snowfall.

Let us hope you get the opportunity, Jane.

The first reasonable whiteness started three days ago late in the evening and was gone today, and now it will be in the 40s for some days.

There are some rifts in the time space continuum showing here in the forums.

I just tested in 2018 and 2019. It's a bug! You can see the square for the center point.

It needs to be reported to Adobe Illustrator Feedback
