Hi, what version of Adobe Illustrator are you using? Have you tried to reset the software preferences?

By default if you click the text tool and let go of the mouse button you set point text that is left aligned. The dot appears on the left.

You can set the text to right aligned by doing a shift command R, and the dot will appear on the right
