Trouble with AI to AE

I'm trying to make a logo in Illustrator and animate it using After Effects. I've never had trouble in the past but about a week or so ago I started having trouble with the files in After Effects (I don't have deep knowledge of Illustrator). When I import as composition the layers show up but they're all just black and blank. Then after a minute locks up After Effects and isn't responsive.

- I made sure there was only one artboard.

- it's in RGB

- it's PDF compatible.

- caps lock is off (one user cited this)

- all the objects are on their own layers.

I'm at a loss.

The movie documents in Illustrator usually have 2 artboards. Which is on purpose.

Apart from that without seeing the actual document it will be impossible to help you and you maybe need someone from the After Effects side solve this. You can upload AI files to Dropbox or the like and post a link in here.
