Trouble with blending tool in Illustrator

Hi, I need help with the blending tool! I have been trying to blend two objects together without any luck...it works sometimes and the other time not.. I don't get what I'm doing wrong..I assume I'm doing what I should but still cant make it work... I can't press blend>make... please help I was following a tutorial and I just followed the video...

Those gradients are freeform gradients, right? Does the tutorial work with freeform gradients?

ooh, maybe not! Yes that solved my problem with the objects...but I have been trying the blending tool on text too and the same problem occurs do you have to do something with the text before using blending tool?

Text works, but only point text, not area text
