Type Disappears from AI CC2019 to CC2020

Hi all.

I have a file that uses both point type and area type, (Helvetica Neue) works fine in AI CC2019. When I open it in CC 2020 the type does not work properly,just doesn't display the type in most instances and the file cannot even be saved (An unknown error has occurred).

If I make a new file, use the same font in a fresh file, it works fine. So something is happening on the interpretation from 2019-2020?

As a test, I also copied the type from CC2019 and pasted it into a file in CC2020 and it fails as well.

macOS 10.15.7

Any ideas? Anyone else having this issue?
