Type tool font is huge!

Hi Community!

I'm very new here and trying to dip my toes in graphic design. I'm already discouraged, to say the least. I opened up the Illustrator and tried to design an invitation, but when I click Type Tool to make a text box, the letters are HUGE, like bigger than the actual template. I've tried everything to fix this. Please help!!

In that screenshot you are zoomed in 4800%.

Thus the template must be very tiny. What is it a template for and how large is it?
