Unable to edit object after reshaping using envelope distort, looking for advice

Hey there,

I've changed the shape of the object I'm working with using the mesh envelope. And I'd like to now be able to erase a couple edges/points of the object where the object intersects with other objects in my project.

I would also like to be able to copy and paste the object I've distorted, and then change the color of the copy.

I can't figure out how to make either of these things happen. I'd really appreciate any advice.
