I was preparing feature image for my website. So, I am unable to import pics.

Do you mean that File > Place doesn't work? Or are you trying to open image files? What happens instead?

If you still have issues importing images, in addition to the information asked by Doug, would you mind sharing the version of the OS & Illustrator? Do you see this behavior while working on some specific images? Are these images saved on a network location?
