Unable to open Computer Graphics Metafile (cgm) files from adobe illustrator

This is regarding the issue facing to open the CGM files through Adobe Illustrator(AI).

Since after updating the adobe illustrator to new version 2021, it is not possible to open the CGM files through adobe illustrator. Earlier, before updating the AI it was possible to open.

Is this all CGM files or just one?

What is your OS version and Illustrator version?

I just tried a sample CGM file from here:

and it opened fine on Windows 10, AI 25.3.1

This is for all the CGM files.

OS version is Windos 10 & AI 25.2.1

The techdraw.cgm file which is in the link you shared, even I am able to open it. But unable to open the similar one's which I have exported from EC.

What is EC?

What Illustrator version does open these files?

EC is Engineering Client used to export 2D drawing in the fom of CGM file.

The version's lower than the latest one were possible to open.

You said you were using version 25.2.1

Do you get the same result if you update to 25.3.1?

I am having this same issue. 

In older releases of Illustrator I could actually open a .cgm file and select the line art.

With the newer releases I couldn't even open a .cgm, even though Adobe said this was one of the supported files in Illustrator. I would immediately receive an error that .cgm was not a supported file type.

Now, with the last two or three updates, I am at v26.2.1, I can open a .cgm file without an error, but all I can see is the metadata in text format. There is no line art. This is extremely frustrating.
