Unexplained layer behavior

Hey Forum,

Just downloaded the new version of Illustrator. Getting ready to export a new project and for some reason a normally functioning layer becomes invisible when exported as a .png or .jpg. But it will behave itself when saved as a pdf. The layer is outlined white text, no transparency, visiblity turned on.

It also happens to be the client's logo. Arguablly the only part of the file that has to work.

Any advice? Running Illustrator 25.0.1. Adding screen shot of correctly functioning file and inexplicable .jpg for reference.

Did you check View > Overprint Preview?

The logo is probably set to overprint (Window> Attributes), as Ton is suggesting. You should be using Acrobat or Reader to check your PDFs, with the page display preference to Use Overprint Preview set to Always, as some PDF viewers will ignore overprinting. It's possible the white logo is a spot color (as normal white is actually not so easy to get to overprint), if so, you should probably fix this too. You can use Acrobat's Output preview tool or Illustrator's Separations Preview tool to check for spot colors.
