Weird-acting path

Hello everyone, a bit of a pickle -

As you can see in the pic attached, 
I'm trying to smooth a shape, yet even though the path is smoothl- curved, the shape itself is rugged.

When I move the anchor points, they move, yet the shape's ruggedness remains similiar.
The shape stands by its own - no Group or Compound Path. 
Any thoughts?

Please try to toggle on/off the Preview on CPU/GPU
