I'm running CS6 locally on a windows 7 machine. This is a pretty simple image with only 9 layers. The file / image default pallet only had 2 swatches when it opened newso I opened a saved pallet that had colors I'm using in another image but I'm taking a colo from a linked file and I'm trying to add that color to the saved pallet and it wont take the new swatch. It will take the new color in the 2 color pallet But the simple truth of the mater is I really need to work from the larger / saved pllet. I mean reall, how useless is a 2 color pallet ? Why can't I add new colors to my saved pallet

Swatches only appear in documents that have swatches. If you open an image in Illustrator, you don't get swatches. You can open swatches from the Swatches panel and add them to your document.

The Swatch presets that you can load from the Swatches panel, are just Illustrator files.

If you want to add a color to your larger saved panel, open it as an Illustrator file, add the colors and save it.

Then you can load it using the Swatches panel.
