InCopy 2024 crashing and corrupting files

Community Beginner ,

Hello,

I've been having issues with InCopy 2024 freezing and then corrupting files. First, the program freezes, leaving me to force quit it. Then, when I try to reopen the file, it can't open it. When I try to open a new, different file, InCopy also corrupts that file.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, trying it on a different computer, and deleting all preferences. My current solution is to use InCopy 2023.

My coworkers are also having issues with InCopy corrupting our files. It's really frustrating. They need to patch this ASAP.

You've told us nothing that can help. What operating system would be the first thing we need to know and then the processor and RAM. You also haven't told us what kind of file and how it's being accessed so we need to know about the full workflow that's being used.

Sorry about that!

I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad. Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8565U CPU @ 1.80GHz 1.99 GHz Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable) System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I work in InCopy and save InCopy files to Creative Cloud (I know this is being discontinued).

Essentially, I was working on an InCopy file in InCopy 2024 and was editing a table. As I switched from layout view to galley view, the whole program froze and stopped responding. I opened Task Manager and force quit the program. When I reopened the same file and clicked yes to recover the document, it opened the document, but InCopy was still frozen, making me force quit the program again. I sent it to my coworker and they had the same issue.

I also sent the file to my personal computer, a Mac, and was able to open and work on the file for a bit before the Mac's InCopy 2024 froze and then crashed.

I was able to open the file in InCopy 2023 and work on it there. However, InCopy 2024 has been freezing as soon as I open older InCopy files that have never been corrupt.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling InCopy 2024, removing all preferences through CTRL+ALT+SHIFT, and completely removing Creative Cloud and Adobe applications from my device.

Does this help?

Is this happening with every file? Are they ICML files that you're working with directly? Are those files part of an InDesign layout? Are there any links? How about fonts? Anything special there? What operating system and build are the Windows and Mac machines?

It started with that one file and then every subsequent ICML file I opened in InCopy 2024 got corrupted too.

And it was just ICML files--no InDesign Assignment files.

No links, but there were special fonts.

PC: Windows 10 Enterprise, 19045.3803

Mac: OS Monterey 12.7.1, Macbook Pro (retina, 13-inch, early 2015)

Adobe has released an update, but I have yet to try it out. I will see if it continues to corrupt my files.

Hmm, that is very similar to what happened to me, but it also corrupted the ICML file and all subsequent ICML files

Not saying this is the case here, but sometimes it gets caught in a loop where it continuosly tries to recreate the file that is causing the issue. So it just crashes regardless if what you try to open.  You just need to make sure you get to the point where InCopy is running without a document open.

What happens if you go to the preferences, without a file open, and go to Track Changes and turn off all the markings for added/deleted text? That seems to be the cause of the crash from what I've been able to determine.

I'll see how the update works and if it doesn't then I'll try your suggestion. Thanks!

We are still having issues with InCopy 2024 corrupting files.

What if we completely removed Adobe and its cache from our computers? Do you all think that would help?

Have you found any solutions? We've had similar issues as well. Our solution was to break up larger files, such as doing it by chapters rather than the entire book. That way if corruption happens it happens to only a small portion and not the entire file.

LATEST

My team decided to revert to InCopy/InDesign 2023 for the time being.

I did reach out to Adobe and they did have some suggestions, so perhaps reach out to them directly if you want to continue using 2024.
