Activating an Adobe CS 5.5

New Here ,
Dec 10, 2025 Dec 10, 2025

I managed to crash my old pc with a faulty power supply but was able to safe my ssd with all my documents for a new pc. I wanted to continue using my quite old CS 5.5 AdobeSuite, but can't since the program seems to think I have installed it onto a new computer.

I can't activate it since the number is installed on two computers already (I can just guess I never uninstalled any copy, so the second one is on an even older pc no longer in use for many years now?), and i can't reactivate the already existing license for this harddrive/pc since the activation process does not exist anymore. Is it possible to somehow proof that this is not a third installation but just the same one, on the same harddrive than last week - just in a new pc?

I only use indesign occasionally for some voluntary work, so I do not rely on it, but I guess it would be much easier continuing to use indesign than starting to learn some other software instead...

Based on other similar posts your chances of ever using this software again, are hovering around zero. One thing for sure, nobody here can help.

That said, if you do need to access your files, you can subscribe to InDesign through Creative Cloud on a month to month basis.

You are probably out of luck , but you can try contacting customer support (see https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/adobe-cs-5-5-activation-dezactivation...)

I've personally had luck installing CS6 on new computers by running the installer, then overwriting the program with a backup image fromn a previous install, but I suspect I also deactivated the old install first,  and I don't remember at this point if I was prompted to reactivate, though I don't think so.

Of course if you don't have a backup image that won't help.

Keep in mind, too, that even if you are ultimately successful in getting the program working, without a backup image you will be stuck with no access to any update patches.
