Recently my High School upgraded to new PCs and Windows 10.
Part of our introduction assignment is to have students save images from the web and place in CS6 InDesign.
The new PCs save jpeg files as jfif files and one of the 20 PCs will not allow the placement of the jfif file.
None of the other 12 Graphics departments in our system are experiencing this.
Any idea?
Thanks!!

Exactly what program / software on your new Windows 10 PCs save images as .JFIF files? Certainly no Adobe software does that.
However, there are reports of Windows 10 mislabeling JPEG files as JFIF. Simply rename as .JPG and you should be good to go. You should not need to open and resave in Photoshop.

Try opening and saving them (Save As, then select JPG from the drop-down Format menu) in photoshop first.

Students use chrome to locate images for projects. They are choosing jpeg
files to place into Indesign using a save image as.
When saved, the file type is what I originally described.
Not jpeg.

Looks like the problem is the browser.
When you find an image you want to use for class, you right click and choose SAVE IMAGE AS.
With Chrome, the file extension changes to JFIF.
With EDGE the file extension is JPEG.

I've also had luck opening the file in paint and resaving it as another file type. Just so you have options.
