Recently I transferred from an iMac 21.5 G5 purchased in 2005 to an iMac 24" M1 2021. I was using Creative Suite 5.5 InDesign Standard. After transferring layout files to the new computer with all new applications the photos in the old layouts are appearing as a small image of the picture in the corner of the image frame and the rest of the larger image frame is filled with black diagonal lines. I understand this is happening to others as well. I just do not know how to fix it. Other than replace all the photos one by one.

I openned InDesign>preferences>turned off GPU. Did a restart>openned InDesign>checked preferences, GPU was turned off. Openned the file with photos. Sorry to say, this did not resolve the problems. Thank for the suggestion.

  1. Transfered installations do never work properly. Adobe requires installation from the original installer.
  2. CS5.5 is not compatible to your computer,

Notes:  Revision 7/16/2023 More details

Recently I transferred from a iMac 21.5 G5 purchased in 2005 to a iMac 24" M1 2021. I was using Creative Suite 5.5 InDesign Standard. After transferring layout files to the new computer with all new applications, the photos in the old layouts are appearing for a split second as okay than appear as a small image of the picture in the left hand corner of the image frame and the rest of the larger image frame is filled with multi colored diagonal lines or in a few cases black boxes. Even though the preview image in Recent looks correct. I understand this is happening to others as well. I just do not know how to fix it. Other than replace all the photos one by one.

Today, I did a test with a couple of the same photos placed them in MS Word on new computer, in new application. They printed without a problem.

I'm a PC user so I have trouble keeping all the Mac related issues in my head, but I think this has come up before and you may be able to find some similar threads. Your screen capture looks an awful lot like the GPU performance glitch, but you say you've turned that off, so...

I do seem to recall that relinking was a time-consuming, but effective, cure. You could try an export to .idml and opeing that first, though, since it would be faster if it works.
