I'm trying to export amy InDesign files as IDML files so I can open them in Affinity Publisher (see you later Adobe, it was mostly nice knowing you for 35 years) and I can't even save them. FTS. I've lost my entire day to crashes and work arounds and backwards steps. No more, Adobe.

Try resetting your preferences:
The easiest way to reset everything is to delete the InDesign preferences: as soon as InDesign starts to boot hold down Shift, Alt, Ctrl (and Apple/Cmd if working on a Macintosh). A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.

Reinstalling rarely fixes everything - you can do a complete reinstall using the
Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

---

Rollback to a previous InDeisgn version

---

Try turning off the GPU Performance in the InDesign settings.

Hi Eugene

I called Adobe and we tried a few things. GPU on and off did nothing. Manually removing all the Prefs and the Cache stopped the madness (for today). I was able to put my Keyboard Shortcuts prefs and Workspace files back into the releavnt folders in ~/Library/… and they worked which was a relief.

No uninstall and reinstall was necassary in this case, but what a day. The "Move Pages" into a new file with same pages size often works to calm the poltergeists of InDesign — of which the M1 macOS version has a tremendous number. It's not good enough Adobe, Apple released developer mac minis with M1 chip two years ago and still the dissappering-reappearing text (its to do with rendering enging if you scroll bits of invisible text appear) hasn't been resolved and Text Wrap is unusable without constant crashing. Lots of other issues, I have maybe 10 serious bugs to log…
