I have a 100 pdf pages created in Illustrator.  How does InDesign handle a catalog ?  Is it best to use ID or should I stick wiht Acrobat for layout and printing..

InDesign is so much better for long-document work. I marvel that anyone could have the patience to build a 100 page document in Illustrator. Almost nothing in Illustrator lends itself to page-layout long-document catalog work. For example, there is no auto-page-numbering in Illustrator. There are no Parent pages in Illustrator. The typesetting lacks niceties that InDesign has. I could go on! 

Not sure what you are asking about Acrobat for layout and printing...?
