Is it possible to change the default for when you select File>Open so that I'm immediately browsing files on my computer (like it used to be in older versions — I just upgraded to CC from CS4) rather than Cloud Documents? I don't keep my files in the cloud, so would like to avoid always having to click "On Your Computer" to see my stuff. Not a huge deal, but just curious if this is possible?

Illustrator and Photoshop have the direct to cloud save feature—InDesign does not have that capability. The save location preference is sticky, so you should be able to save locally once and the apps will remember your choice.

First off, I don't see this behavior here, at all. I have no files in the cloud, either.

The Open dialog defaults here to the last folder from which a file was opened, which I believe is the normal behavior. You might want to try resetting your prefs: Reset InDesign Preferences and Other Troubleshooting
