Change TOC leading for different entry levels

Explorer ,
Jul 11, 2023 Jul 11, 2023

Have styles for section heading and section subheading. Would like the section subheading font size and leading to be smaller than that for the section heading. Have different TOC styles for each. Font size for subheading is set for 12 and the leading for 14, but the leading is actually 16 (the leading for the section heading). Changing the leading in the subhead TOC style does nothing until I change it to 12, then all of the lines scrunch up together (no leading, which makes sense at a setting of 12). How do I make the leading 16 for the section heading and 14 for the section subheading? Thanks for any help.

You should be able to define each TOC style independently and fully. Are changes not being recognized? Have you regenerated the TOC after adjusting and assigning the styles?

Hi Leann:

First of all, you are mapping the Headings in the source files to separate TOC headings, right? (So section heading and section subheading mapping to  TOC section heading and TOC section subheading.)

  • Do you have the TOC headings snapped to the baseline grid?
  • Or do you have a character style applied to the heading in the source files that is being carried over into the TOC headings?

I'd start there.
