I have three user guides that differ in page length but have common main pages. I was hoping to make a change in one that will reflect in the others without copying and pasting. Has anyone found a workaround for that?

You can place InDesign pages in a document the same way you can place an image or PDF. Setup a document with the common pages and place those pages in the different user guides. Edit the common pages document and update the links in the user guides

Depending on just how different the guides are, consider combining the material in one document and using Conditional Text. It takes a little care with setup and editing, but I've done some insanely complex multi-version publications with it, and it eliminates all need to manually keep material in sync across docs.
