Constantly error message when opening file from last Friday

New Here ,

Hello everyone, Currently I am working with InDesign version 2022, 17.3. Until last Friday I've worked without any problems. Today, when trying to open the same files in a first step there is information that one link does no longer work properly and that I can re-connect. That's fine, but in a next step there is information on an error due to which InDesign has to be closed. Or there is information the file has been demaged. When I open it despite it some elements (line) which have been there until Friday properly, do not appear. Thansk for any kind of advice.

Have you tried opeing the linked file in the application that made it? It sounds like it has been damaged, and if it fails to open correctly that could be a sign of impending hard drive troubles.

I agree with Peter, that is the first thing I would check. If that does not help. Try saving the file under a new name and see if that fixes it. But it does sound like a damage in the link.

Thanks Jumpenjax, too, I will let check the basic link. Saving the file under a new name unfortunately did not work. I just try it tormorrow again, sometimes miracles happen ... Thanks, Sabine

Thanks Peter, I thought so, it is a bigger graphic element for our normal covers. I will (let) check the very last version of the basic file. Thanks for you advice, Sabine

If it opens, try saving to a new location and relink.

Hi Sabine,

the first thing you could test when InDesign is not running:

Copy the InDesign document file to your desktop and try to open it from there.

Do not do this with a double-click on the file, but use InDesign's File > Open… command.

Do you have a backup of the file that was saved before Friday?

If you test with that, do not overwrite your current document.
