Looking for a shortcut using linked text boxes... but I hit a wall.
I have a magazine that is all layed out with space for text.
I then go ahead and create a data merge from a csv. It creates a new Document. I copy and past the date merge info into the proper pages of my existing document.
I do this for multiple different merges. Im looking for a shortcut.
The closest i have been is - using content collector when copying the data merge info i can have the text boxes link to original data merge file and if i update text there... it updates the magazine file... Which is cool!
However when i create a new data merge and save it over the old one. I get an error "Unable to locate the original object in the selected document"
Any ideas?

Why not just place the InDesign file that the data merge creates?
=========
Or you could skip the InDesign process and instead create a PDF directly from the data merge.
And you can place that PDF in InDesign.
==============
All you need to do is relink to the new file.
It's hard to envisage your workflow.

I creat a file using a data merge. So the layout and placement of text boxes is limiting.
then i past them in a colorful deisgn and positions the text boxes in proper area.
i do this multiple times with multiple magazines and data merges. I would like to connect the text boxes to a file. And then relink the file to the next data merge. And all falls into place.
i also like the ability to make quick text edits without opening up a linked files.
