Copy and paste different size

New Here ,
Jan 06, 2025 Jan 06, 2025

I am copying a spread from one file to another. Both pages are set to the same size with the same margins, but when I copy and paste across the layout is coming in too large for the page. If i resize, I will need to adjust the font size as well. I have closed and reopened and tried again with the same result. Pictures below. Help!!

Looking at File > Document Setup... on both files margins are all set to 12.7 mm, as are all the margins on the Parent pages on both files when you check Layout > Margins and Columns..., but if you then go to your document page in Mid Month.indd and check Layout > Margins and Columns... you'll see that the inside and outside margijns are set to 11 mm whcih is why your pasted object appears wider than the margins in the receiving file.

Hi Paintpaws,

I understand how inconvenient this must be-let’s work together to sort it out!
Could you please share your InDesign version and OS details? Additionally, if you could upload screenshots of the Document Setup for both files (File > Document Setup), that would help us compare the settings.
In the meantime, try using Paste in Place from the Edit menu, as it might help maintain the correct size and position when copying between documents.
If it’s still giving you trouble, feel free to share the original files if possible. We’ll gladly check on our end and get back to you.
Hang in there, and we’ll do our best to help!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

Hi

My OS is Windows 11. My Indesign is 20.0.1 . I have attached my actual files below. The page size is 180 x 235 mm. The Show file was created to show the problem. I use Paste in Place.

Sorry forgot setups. The one on the left is the Mid-month. The one on the right is Show.

It's coming in at the same size. margins are the same in document setup, but they'y don't match on the document page so they must have been changed on the parent page after setup.

I don't really know what you mean. But the parent pages are the same size on both documents. I can't see any difference.
