copy and paste in InDesign

I cannot copy and paste into inDesign. I am trying to copy some text from inside a document and paste it elsewhere inside the same document and it is not working. I have updated my computer and have the lastest version of inDesgin from the cloud.

Please tell us what operating system (exactly) you're running. Please tell us (exactly) what InDesign version you're using.

Just to be clear, you're saying you can't copy text between to parts of the same document. What happens when you paste?

Does this happen in just this one document, or in any document you try? (If the former, I'd try saving the file as an IDML (to eliminate corruption) and open the IDML file. If in every file you try, you might try restoring your InDesign preferences anc caches:
